  • Ramsay Ong - Taman Orchid Ramsay Ong - Taman Orchid

Artist : Datuk Ramsay Ong - Taman Orchid (Malaysia)

Measurement: 27cm x 32cm

Quick Overview

Title : Taman Orchid
Acquired in year 2005 from Artrageous Gallery

An artist, gallery owner (Artrageous Gallery in Kuching, Sarawak)

Ramsay’s interest in art started from a very young age when he was always surrounded by nature, making his artwork unique, distinctive and eccentric. His interest in batik started at a later stage, being steered and advised by a German art lecturer. First, he needed to learn the basic techniques of applying dye and wax.

Being a filial son, Ramsay worked as a draughtsman, in obedience to his father’s wishes. He managed to learn control and self discipline. He managed to paint enough artwork for his first exhibition in 1964 under the British Council at the museum ground. Since it was well received by the public, Ramsay quit his draughtsman job and followed his dream to be an artist. His batik pieces sold like hot cakes to the British residents. But he needed to spread his wings. He left for the US and experienced life in the big metropolis. However he kept to his roots, producing typical local pieces portraying wood carvings and local Sarawak scenery.

Over his 50 year involvement in art, Ramsay never became static. He was constantly in a state of creativity. He kept evolving, into something different and better.
